Ambassador KASAHARA Pays a Courtesy Call on the Vice Governor of Hokkaido Prefecture

On July 1, 2026, Ambassador KASAHARA Kenichi visited Hokkaido Prefecture, where he paid a courtesy call on Vice Governor MIHASHI Tsuyoshi to exchange views on promoting closer ties between Hokkaido and Palau.

Ambassador KASAHARA also visited the Hokkaido Prefectural Assembly, where he met with Speaker ITO Joichi and members of the Hokkaido Legislative Assembly Members’ Group for Japan-Palau Friendship. The Group visited Palau in April and donated baseball equipment for the youth team.

In the afternoon, Ambassador KASAHARA visited Sapporo Medical University and held meetings with President YAMASHITA Toshihiko (Dr.) and Dr. YAMA Naoya, Associate Professor. Sapporo Medical Unicversity has commenced a JICA-partnership project aimed at establishing a training system for gastrointestinal cancer screening in Palau, in cooperation with Belau National Hospital.
