BSCC Marine Cable Landing Station Completion Ceremony

On June 28, 2023, Chargé d’Affaires, a.i. of Japan, Ms. HAGIWARA Mayu attended the ribbon cutting ceremony for the completion of the Belau Submarine Cable Corporation (BSCC) Cable Landing Station in Ngaradmau together with President, H.E. Surangel Whipps, Jr. and his cabinet Ministers, OEK members, traditional leaders, Speaker Bradley Kumangai of the Ngardmau State Legislature, Australian Minister for International Development and the Pacific and Minister for Defence Industry, Honorable Pat Conroy, and Chargé d’Affaires, a.i. of the United States, Mr. James A. Boughner.
This public-private project is jointly funded by Japan, Australia and the United States with a total of $30 million USD, financed through institutions including the Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC) and Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation (SMBC), and supported also by Nippon Export and Investment Insurance (NEXI). Japan’s NEC Corporation, who installed the first submarine cable in Palau, provided the submarine cable and other equipment.
This is BSCC’s second international submarine cable (PC2) connecting Palau to Singapore and to the mainland US. The existing cable (PC1) with a landing at Ngeremlengui, is connected to Guam. PC2 is expected to be fully operational in Q1 2025.
