Peleliu State Government Holds Ceremony to Commemorate the 8th Anniversary of Their Majesties' Visit to Peleliu

On Sunday, April 9, 2023, Ambassador ORIKASA Hiroyuki attended the Peleliu State Government’s ceremony to commemorate the 8th anniversary of the 2015 visit to the state by Their Majesties Emperor Emeritus Akihito and Empress Emerita Michiko.
The ceremony was attended by President Surangel Whipps Jr., Vice President and Minister of Justice Uduch Sengebau-Senior, Minister of State Gustav Aitaro, Minister of Human Resources, Culture, Tourism and Development Ngiraibelas Tmetuchl, Minister of Public Infrastructure and Industry Charles Obichang, Peleliu Governor Emmais Roberts and other Palauan government officials, as well as island residents and Japanese visitors who came to Palau to pay respect to the war dead on the island of Peleliu.
This ceremony has been held every year to commemorate the visit of Their Majesties the Emperor and Empress to Peleliu State on April 9, 2015, except for 2020 and 2021 due to COVID-19. The State of Peleliu has designated April 9 as a state holiday. The ceremony of this state holiday also signify the deep ties between Japan and Palau.
