2020/9/14

On September 14, 2020, the fire station in Koror held the handover ceremony for the new fire truck (worth up to approx. 365 thousand dollars) provided through Japan’s grant aid. The ceremony was attended by Vice President Oilouch and Ambassador Karasawa as well as some key officials from Ministry of Justice and the Division of Fire and Rescue.
This grant aid is one of the schemes under “the Economic and Social Development Programme in fiscal year 2016” of up to 200 million yen, signed in October 2017. Vice President Oilouch stated in his opening remarks that he is very thankful for the generous support from the Government of Japan in the most difficult time. In addition, he emphasized that Japan is a valuable partner for Palau for its growth and development.
Ambassador Karasawa mentioned the wildfires occurred in Palau several months ago in the dry season and reiterated that it is very important to be ready for such fire with sufficient equipment such as the fire trucks Japan has provided in Palau. He also delivered his hope that the fire truck will guarantee the safe living of the people in Palau.
Mr. Aloysius Alonz, Director of Public Safety, said in his closing remarks that he and his staff are very happy with this assistance because it is the first time for them to get a bland new fire truck, and it will definitely help their service for years to come.
