Introduction of Japanese Culture with Peleliu Elementary School

2026/5/19

On May 15, 2026, staff from the Embassy of Japan alongside Ambassador Kasahara Kenichi visited Peleliu Elementary School to introduce students to Japanese cultural activities. The visit began with a short presentation by Embassy staff about the day’s activities, which included an arare-making demonstration and tasting, as well as origami folding.

The Embassy of Japan’s chef, Mr. Katsuyama Hisanori, demonstrated how to make homemade arare using mochi. Afterwards, the students were served the arare and were able to add their favorite flavors, including cocoa, vanilla, strawberry, and even a salt-and-sugar combination.

While waiting for the arare to cook, Embassy staff taught the students how to make origami samurai hats.

The students enjoyed the hands-on activities and were excited to learn more about Japanese culture through food and art. The Embassy will continue its commitment to creating meaningful cultural exchanges that strengthen the tokubetsu friendship between Palau and Japan.
