GGP Follow-up Visit to Belau National Museum

2026/4/13

On April 6th, 2026, the GGP Coordinator of the Embassy of Japan met with Ms. Olympia E. Morei-Remengesau, Director of Belau National Museum (BNM), Mr. Simeon Adelbai, BNM Curator, and Ms. Misato Sugai, a JICA Volunteer. The visit was conducted as a follow-up to “The Project for Renovation of the Bai, Belau National Museum.”

Through the Government of Japan’s Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP), the Bai’s roof at BNM was repaired in 2000, with a total grant of USD 19,000.

Even 26 years after the completion of the project, the Bai continues to serve as a site for tourism and cultural learning, attracting many visitors. Its interior features decorations depicting myths and stories that have been passed down through generations in Palau, offering visitors a unique educational experience.
The Embassy of Japan hopes that the Bai’s cultural significance will continue to be preserved in good condition and passed on to future generations.
