GGP Follow-up Visit to Ngarchelong Elementary School
2026/3/31

On March 26, 2026, the Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP) Coordinator of the Embassy of Japan visited Ngarchelong Elementary School and met with Mr. Edward Ngiratrang, the school principal. The visit was conducted as a follow-up to two projects: “The Project for School Bus Procurement for Ngarchelong Elementary School” and “The Project for Reconstruction of Typhoon Damaged Facility for Ngarchelong Elementary School.”
Through the Government of Japan’ s GGP, the school was provided with one 30-seater school bus on December 6, 2013 (USD 101,045). In addition, the school cafeteria was reconstructed and handed over on August 20, 2014 (USD 96,810) after being damaged by a typhoon.
Even 13 years after the completion of these projects, both the bus and the cafeteria remain well maintained and are still in active use. The bus transports approximately 40 students daily, and both facilities continue to contribute to a stable environment for students’ education. The Embassy of Japan hopes that these facilities will continue to provide a supportive learning environment for students and teachers.
Japan’s GGP was launched in Palau in 1999 to address grassroots development needs, including education, healthcare, and community welfare. These projects form part of the 105 GGP projects implemented in Palau to date.
