On March 2, 2026, His Excellency Surangel S. Whipps Jr., President of the Republic of Palau stayed in Japan in transit on his way to attend the World Ocean Summit in Montreal, Canada. This visit marked his 11th visit to Japan since assuming the presidency in 2021.
The President met with Minako Tanaka, a Japanese TV talent who serves as Palau's honorary goodwill ambassador. She plans to visit Palau in March to conduct a beach clean-up.
They discussed various issues of mutual interests including the preparation for PIF summit meeting in September, deepening economic ties between Japan and Palau and revitalization of Palau’s fishing industry.
The President signed the MOU with the representative of the Biosphere Dynamics LLC regarding strengthening EEZ monitoring.
