Rajio Taiso Exercise to Promote Healthy Living

2025/11/6
Obesity and non-communicable diseases (NCDs) are major health problems in Palau. US Ambassador to Palau H.E. Joel Ehrendreich organized the first “Fitness and Nutrition Stakeholders Meeting” in September, 2025 to initiate a donor coordination on fitness and nutrition to explore opportunities for collaboration with Palauan stakeholders in promoting wellness and healthy living.

In response to this initiative, we have started a three-minute (and 14-second) 'Rajio Taiso' exercise session. These sessions aim to promote healthy living and will be conducted every other week with people living in Palau. Get in touch with us. Our staff will come to you and do Rajio Taiso together.

What is Rajio Taiso?
Rajio Taiso or radio exercises, is a popular exercise routine performed to music, often broadcast on public radio and TV in Japan. The first version of Rajio Taiso was introduced in Japan in 1928 by then-Ministry of Communications, broadcast on NHK radio as part of a national health and fitness promotion campaign.

For children, it's a traditional part of summer vacation. Children often gather at designated spots (parks, schoolyards) to do Rajio Taiso, and sometimes receive a stamp on an attendance card for each day they participate.
