Japan Supports Palau’s Border Security with New X-Ray Systems

2025/10/20

On October 6, 2025, the Bureau of Customs and Border Protection received upgrades to its border security and inspection capabilities with the installation of new advanced X-ray systems at Palau International Airport and the Post Office.

Funded by the Government of Japan, these upgrades include three mobile scanners and four medium fixed X-ray units, which will greatly enhance the Bureau’s ability to quickly and accurately detect prohibited items, thereby helping to ensure the safety and security of Palau’s borders.

Training sessions for BCBP staff were held from October 9 to 10 at the airport and from October 14 to 15 at the post office to ensure that personnel are fully equipped to operate the new systems effectively.

This assistance demonstrates Japan’s ongoing commitment to supporting Palau’s efforts in enhancing national security and efficient border operations.
