The Japan Ground Self-Defense Force (JGSDF) conducted a defense exchange program in Palau.

From June 18 to 20, two crew of the JGSDF conducted an engineer exchange with the U.S. Marine Corps (USMC) on Peleliu Island, Palau. This was the first exchange between the JGSDF and the USMC in Palau, and they brought their respective knowledge and experience to the three days of exchange. On the last day, Mr. Ono, Deputy Chief of Mission, joined the exchange and visited the ruins of Peleliu Island, where fierce battles were fought.

On June 16-17, the crew joined the courtesy call to the Minister of Justice, Hon. Jennifer S. Olegeriil, held during a port call of Japanese Marine Self-Defense Force (JMSDF) destroyer ‘JS Yahagi’ and presented a commemorative gift. In addition, during a cultural exchange event with Maris Stella Elementary School, the crew presented kendama, which won the hearts of the students.
