From April 26 to 30, 2025, H.E. Surangel S. WHIPPS Jr., President of the Republic of Palau, Mrs. Valerie Whipps, First Lady, visited Japan to participate in Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan. This marks a third consecutive visit to Japan by President Whipps within three months this year and his eighth visit overall since taking office in January 2021.
Palau National Day
On April 28, President Whipps and First Lady attended the Palau National Day, an official event of the Expo, and delivered a speech. As the representative of the Government of Japan, Mr. MIYAJI Takuma, State Minister for Foreign Affairs attended and welcomed President Whipps and his delegation. The Sonsorol Men's Cultural Group shared several traditional dances and chants with the audience. The venue was filled with excitement.

Dinner Reception
On March 11, President Whipps participated in World Island Forum: High Level Roundtable, co-hosted by The Nippon Foundation and Sasakawa Peace Foundation.

Visit to Palau Pavillion
On April 28, President Whipps and First Lady visited the Palau Pavilion at Commons A of the Expo venue. The Palau Pavilion features Itabori (storyboards) and traditional culture of Palau.

Signing MOU with Univeristy of Hyogo
On April 29, President Whipps signed a memorandum of understanding between the University of Hyogo and the Ministry of Education of Palau for the acceptance of Palauan students.
