2025 Press Tour on Japan’s Development Cooperation Projects

On 17 March, a press tour for the local media was organised, with five participants from two newspapers, state and private radio stations and a private television station, to observe the efforts being made in the areas of governance, agriculture and education. The purpose of the press tour was to increase opportunities for Japanese development cooperation to be covered by the local media and to strengthen information dissemination to the Palauan public and government officials.
 

Governance

The delegation visited Melekeok, where they were briefed by Public Information Officers from the OEK on the Project for Strengthening Legislatures' Capacity in Pacific Island Countries (SLIP) - Phase II, partnering with UNDP, which aims to improve transparency in parliamentary activities through more efficient legislative functions in Palau.
 
 
At the Palau International Airport, the Director of Aviation Bureau of the Ministry of Public Infrastrucutre and Industry, and the Chief of Division of Corporate Services, Bureau of Customs and Border Protection of Ministry of Finance explained about the Project for Strengthening Border Control Capacity for the COVID-19 Crisis, partnering with UNDP, IOM, and UNCTAD, which represents Japan’s commitment to bolster border security management in Palau.
 
 

Agriculture

At the facilities built under the Economic and Social Development Programme for meat processing in Ngchesar, the press was briefed by the Chief of Livestock Division, Bureau of Agriculture of the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Environment, and other staff of the division, on the importance of food security in the island nation of Palau and the significance of the project. This was followed by a lively discussion with officials from the division on future activities.
 
   

Education

The principals of the Airai and Meyuns Elementary School explained the contribution made by the Project for Procurement of School Bus for Airai Elementary School and the Project for Reconstructing Cafeteria for Meyuns Elementary Schoo, both funded by the Grassroots Human Security Grant Assistance.
