On January 16, 2025, Hon. TSUCHIYA Shinako, member of the House of Representatives, visited Palau on the occasion of the 12th Constitutional Government Inauguration Ceremony. As Hon. Tsuchiya assumed a position of the Chairperson of the Japan-Palau Parliamentary Friendship League last December, her visit made an opportunity to reconfirm the strong bond between Japan and Palau. During her stay, she attended the inauguration ceremony and engaged in various activities that reinforced the relationship and cooperation between the two nations.

Hon. Tsuchiya had the honor of meeting Bilung Gloria Salii at her residence, where they discussed the importance of Japan-Palau relations and shared interests such as promoting healthy eating habits and nutrition. She also met with JICA volunteers and representatives from JMAS (Japan Mine Action Service) and Peace Winds Japan. These organizations are actively supporting Palau in areas such as education, infrastructure, and people-to-people exchanges, showcasing the impactful contributions of Japanese initiatives to Palau’s development. Additionally, Hon. Tsuchiya visited the Sakurakai Cemetery to pay tribute to the war dead during World War II.

Hon. Tsuchiya concluded her visit by attending the Inaugural Ball that evening. Seated at the head table, she had the opportunity to meet and engage with key Palauan individuals, including President Whipps and First Lady, Vice President Oilouch, Reklai, Bilung, Ebilreklai, the President of the Senate, and the Speaker of the House of Delegates. Her presence at the event celebrated the enduring partnership and mutual respect between Japan and Palau, marking a memorable conclusion to her visit.
