80th Anniversary Commemoration Ceremony of the Battle of Peleliu Held in Peleliu State

On September 15, 2024, Ambassador ORIKASA Hiroyuki and Major General TARUMI Tatsuo, Director General Operations Support & Training Department, Ground Staff Office, Japan Ground Self-Defense Force, attended the Commemoration Ceremony of the 80th Anniversary of the Battle of Peleliu. The ceremony was also joined by 16 members from the Japan Association for Recovery and Repatriation of War Casualties, who has been engaged in bone collection activities in Palau.

The event, held in Peleliu, was jointly organized by the U.S. Marine Corps Forces, Pacific, the U.S. Embassy in Palau, the Government of the Republic of Palau, and the State of Peleliu.

Their attendance emphasized the significance of honoring the ultimate sacrifices made during this savage battle and highlighted the enduring commitment of Japan to peace and stability in Palau and this region along with Palau, U.S., and like-minded partners. The ceremony served as a sincere reminder of the value of peace, paying tribute to those who fought and died in one of the fiercest battles in the Pacific during the World War II.
