Mie Prefectural Assembly members visit Palau

On April 10, 2024, Mr. HIRO Kotaro, heading a 12-member delegation from the Mie Prefectural Assembly met with representatives from the Government of Palau and OEK and Ambassador ORIKASA Hiroyuki and exchanged views on Palau-Mie relations.

During their stay in Palau, Mr. Hiro and his delegation also paid a courtesy call on H.E. Surangel S. Whipps Jr., President of the Republic of Palau and visited partners, including Palau Community College, Palau International Coral Reef Center, and Palau High School.

The Mie Prefectural Assembly delegation’s visit holds particular importance as it builds upon the longstanding friendship between Palau and Mie Prefecture, which was formally established on July 25, 1996. The late Former President Kuniwo Nakamura, with roots tracing back to Ise City in Mie Prefecture, played a pivotal role in fostering these friendly relations. His numerous visits to Mie have significantly deepened ties between Palau and Mie.

Since the formal establishment of their friendship relations, Palau and Mie have collaborated on various fronts, including environmental initiatives, tourism development, fisheries, agriculture, and cultural exchanges. These cooperative projects have not only strengthened bilateral ties but have also facilitated mutual growth and understanding between Palau and Mie Prefecture.
