Conducting the third Japan-Palau Goodwill Exercise in History

2022/7/27

From July 20-22, the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF) destroyer KIRISAME conducted a communication and information exchange exercise with Division of Maritime Security and Fish and Wildlife Protection patrol vessel KEDAM provided by The Nippon Foundation in the waters surrounding Palau as the third Palau-Japan goodwill exercise in history.

On July 19, prior to the goodwill exercise, KIRISAME participated in the Pacific Partnership 2022 hosted by the US military, and conducted a search and rescue exercise in the waters surrounding Palau with US Navy MERCY, US Coast Guard MERTLE HAZARD, UK Royal Navy TAMAR, and Palau's DMSFWP KEDAM.

Through these exercises, JMSADF further deepened cooperative relations with Palau, the US and the UK toward the realization of “Free and Open Indo-Pacific,” while achieving greater mutual understanding among those countries.
