Workshop for Gender Equality and Social Inclusion in Disaster Risk Management

On February 10-11, the two-day training workshop was conducted through ‘Enhancing Disaster and Climate Resilience Project’ partnered by the Government of Japan and UNDP to raise awareness in gender and social inclusion in the context of disaster risk management. The workshop took place successfully, thanks to all partners such as Palau’s National Emergency Management Office (NEMO), Bureau of Gender, Aging and Disabilities, Palau Red Cross, the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), Pacific Community (SPC) and Omekesang Association of Palau, a civil society organization working for the rights of persons with disabilities.
 
Ambassador Karasawa joined the opening ceremony of the workshop and gave a speech. He stated that it is important for the participants to think during peaceful time about what they can do for the vulnerable people during natural disasters and conveyed his hope that the workshop would be a big help for it. Vice President and Minister of State Sengebau Senior also attended the opening ceremony and expressed her pleasure to join the workshop focusing on gender and social inclusion issues and thanked Japan and other organizations for their support.
