Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for the Project for the Construction of National Landfill

On November 19th, 2020, Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for the Project for the Construction of National Landfill was held in Aimeliik State. The ceremony was attended by President Remengesau, Paramount Chief Ibedul, Paramount Chief Reklai, Ambassador Karasawa, JICA Palau Resident Representative, Mr. Tachihara and other distinguished guests numbering more than 100.
The national landfill project, worth about $12 million dollars, is finally completed. The new landfill is one of the most remarkable waste management facilities in the Pacific region, using some advanced Japanese technologies.
In the ceremony, President Remengesau stated that the landfill is one of the top infrastructure development for Palau and that a successful and healthy society must have good Gomi-Steba. The President thanked the people and the government of Japan for their friendship and expressed gratitude for the assistance.
Ambassador Karasawa thanked all the people who had been involved in the project. He then remarked on the tradition of cleanliness and Kinro-Hoshi rooted in the Palauan culture, which makes Palau a truly Pristine Paradise. He conveyed his hope that the brand new landfill site will be managed with good care to protect Palau’s beautiful environment for years to come.
The new national landfill will start its operation in January 2021. The Embassy of Japan in Palau hopes that the new landfill will contribute to Palau’s waste management activities for a long time.
