Japan and Palau Signed approx. $3.2 million Grant Aid Contract for the Project for the Economic and Social Development of the Republic of Palau

On March 12th, 2020, His Excellency KARASAWA Akira, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan in Palau, and Honorable Faustina K. Rehuher-Marugg, Minister of State of the Republic of Palau, exchanged notes on the Japan’s grant aid of up to 350 million yen (approximately $3.2 million) for the purpose of the implementation of “The Economic and Social Development Programme” for Palau.
Through this project, Japan is going to provide the Government of Palau with a set of equipment related to marine safety and other products helping Palau to overcome its vulnerability, and aim to contribute to the development of Palau. It is expected that a set of equipment donated by Japan will help to improve night navigation and the overall safety of all individuals traveling by sea.
At the ceremony, Minister Marugg thanked Ambassador Karasawa and the Government of Japan for the economic cooperation with which Japan has been providing Palau for a long time including “The Economic and Social Development Programme”.
After Minister Marugg made her remarks, Ambassador Karasawa stated that Japan has been promoting economic cooperation with Palau for a long time and would like to develop the strong relationship between the two countries. He concluded his speech by wishing the project would be the integral part of Palau’s further development in the years to come.
