Japanese renowned Enka Singer Oka Midori to perform at Ngarachamayong Cultural Center

On the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relationship between Japan and Palau, the Embassy of Japan in collaboration with Palau Visitors Authority is organizing an Enka concert to be held at the Ngarachamayong Cultural Center on November 24, 2019 (Sunday) from 1:30pm to 2:30pm (Doors open at 12:30pm).
Enka is a Japanese music genre which represents traditional Japanese music. Modern enka is known to be a form of sentimental ballad which is similar to Palauan oldies music. Some Japanese enka are known and performed in Palauan versions, such as the famous Palauan songs titled “Kimeta”, “DARLING”, “Shirakaba” and more…”
Oka Midori is a Japanese enka singer born in Hyogo Prefecture (sister-city of Palau). She has received trainings of Japanese folk music (Minyou) since the age of 5 and has won numerous singing contests in the Kansai area. She debuted in Kansai as a member of an idol group named “HOP CLUB”. After some time, she decided to take a break to work solo and to focus on enka music which is her passion. Her songs “Kiri no Kawa” (2016) and “Sado no Yubue/Ame no Kiyamachi”(2017) became big hits in 2017. She was invited to sing in Kouhaku Uta Gassen (nationally known New Year’s Eve TV song program in Japan) in 2017 and 2018, and has become a well-known enka singer in Japan. She currently takes the role of Tourism Ambassador for Himeji City and Shisou City (both in Hyogo Prefecture). Her hobby is diving.
