Recent MHS graduate, Mr. Benedict to participate in the Japanese Language Program

August 23, 2018 – Mr. Melemalt Benedict, who recently graduated from Mindszenty High School, was granted the opportunity to attend the Japanese language program offered by Japan Foundation from September 5 to 19, 2018 in Osaka, Japan.
There are 46 participants from various countries including Mr. Benedict, whom represents Palau, selected to participate in the two-week program. The purpose of the program is to offer outstanding students of the Japanese language and educational institutions abroad, the opportunity to visit Japan, and to deepen their knowledge of the Japanese language, society and culture.
During their stay in Japan, participants will attend Japanese language lectures, experience Japanese cultural activities, visit cultural facilities, historical sites and home visits. Sightseeing tours to Hiroshima and Kyoto are also included in the program. Participants will get to plan their own free day sightseeing tour of Kyoto Prefecture, which is well known for its historical townscape and its beautiful autumn foliage.
Mr. Benedict took Japanese language classes at Mindszenty High School for three years where he learned basic Japanese language grammar as well as writing hiragana, katakana and simple kanji characters. In 2017, there were a total of 145 students from Mindszenty High School, Palau High School, and Palau Community College who took Japanese language classes.
The Embassy of Japan is pleased to support the Japanese language program with the Japan Foundation and the Japanese Language Institutes in Palau towards the promotion of learning Japanese language. It also continues to seek opportunities for Palauans to further their education in Japan.
