Embassy of Japan to hold 7th Japan Fair
2017/2/10
The Embassy of Japan in Palau is pleased to announce that the 7th Japan Fair is slated for Sunday, February 19, 2017 in joint collaboration with Mie Prefecture Government. The event will be held at the Ngarachamayong Cultural Center from 1:30 pm to 5:00 pm (Registration opens at 1:00pm). The Embassy of Japan invites everyone to come and experience Japan’s unique culture.
With the purpose of promoting cultural exchange and understanding between the people of Japan and Palau, the 7th Japan Fair will feature Japanese Taiko or drum performance and Soran Bushi (Japanese work song) dance by Japanese Language School students, Judo performance by Palau Judo Federation, and hands-on experience of the Japanese art of writing or calligraphy and origami.
Last year we celebrated the 20 years of the friendship association between Mie Prefecture and Palau. In efforts to further strengthen the good relations we are pleased to have students from the Mie Maritime High School and representatives of the Toba Aquarium, who will travel to Palau to participate in the fair. Both groups will have special exhibits showcasing tools, equipment and photos of their activities. Since Mie Prefecture is famous for Ninjas they will have a ninja dress up booth.
We also have Mr. Katsumori Takashima from Iwaki City of Fukushima Prefecture, who joined the event last year and will be participating again this year to give a presentation on student exchange programmes.
The public is invited to come and watch a documentary film “Umi Yama Aida” (In Between Mountains and Oceans), which will be shown in one of the small halls at the Ngarachamayong cultural center. The film is about the rebuilding of the Ise Jingu located in Mie Prefecture. Traditionally the shrine is rebuilt once every 20 years and this practice has been done for a thousand years. The documentary communicates the message on the importance of passing on knowledge and skills to the next generation as well as appreciating nature as our blessed inheritance passed down to us by our ancestors and to protect our natural resources and the environment for future generations.
The event is free and open to the public. Bring your friends and family and come and join us at the Japan Fair. For more information, please contact the Embassy of Japan at 488-6455.
