Japan Selects New Assistant Language Teacher (ALT) under the JET Programme

The Embassy of Japan in Palau is pleased to announce the selection of the new Assistant Language Teacher (ALT) under the 2016 Japan Exchange and Teaching (JET) Programme.
Ms. Dolmii Dee Remeliik was selected by the Council of Local Authorities for International Relations (CLAIR), an organization that manages the JET Programme to serve dually as Palau’s cultural ambassador to Japan and as an ALT.
Ms. Remeliik, who is due to depart to Japan on July 31, 2016, will be placed at Minami-Ise High School in Mie Prefecture, Palau’s sister city. She is the second Palauan ALT to be placed in this prefecture following Ms. Kate Oiph-Weers who has served as an ALT since her selection in 2012.
Ms. Remeliik will initially serve a one-year contract assisting Japanese English teachers with their English curriculum as well as performing duties such as preparing materials for teaching foreign language and language training for teachers.
On July 15, 2016, Dolmii participated in the pre-arrival orientation at the Embassy of Japan where she made a courtesy visit with His Excellency Kazuhiro Tajiri, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Palau.
Ambassador Tajiri extended his well wishes to Ms. Remeliik and congratulated her on her selection.
“I am extremely grateful to have been selected for this exciting opportunity to work and teach in Japan”, she said on her selection. “I am also nervous yet delighted to experience Japan’s rich and wonderful culture.”
Prior to her application to the JET Programme, Ms. Remeliik served as the English Education Specialist for the Ministry of Education where she was responsible for training local teachers.
Ms. Remeliik holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Arizona State University and a Master of Education degree in Education Administration from the University of Hawai’i at Manoa.
The JET Programme was established in 1987 offering citizens of participating countries with opportunities to serve in local authorities as well as primary, junior high, and senior high schools in Japan. Since its establishment, a total of three (3) Palauans including Ms. Remeliik have been selected to participate. In total 4,786 individuals from 43 countries have participated in the program at present.
