◆Japan hands over School Bus to Ngarchelong Elementary School

On Friday, December 6, 2013, Ambassador of Japan Kazuhiro Tajiri formally handed over the brand new Nissan 30 seater school bus to Ngarchelong Elementary School (NES). The Handing Over Ceremony was held at NES in Ngriil, Ngarchelong State. The ceremony was attended by Senator Arnold Oilouch, Delagate Marhence Madrangchar, Governor of Ngarchelong Browny Salvador, Director of Bureau of Education Emery Wenty, PTA Chairman Abraham Osima and NES Principal Pamela Swei. NES students and their parents were also present to witness the ceremony.

Through Japan’s Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP), NES school bus was procured in the total cost of $101,045. The former school bus owned by the school for over 12 years, broke down and became unrepairable last year. The new bus will now ensure safe and reliable transportation of students and will allow their participation in extracurricular activities outside the state without transportation challenges.

In his remarks in the ceremony, Ambassador Tajiri conveyed his sincere sympathies for the people affected by Super Typhoon Haiyan and stated his hope for their soonest recovery. Having the school cafeteria damaged by the typhoon, NES is currently having classes half day. Ambassador also stated that the Government of Japan is currently seeking the possibilities of providing further assistance in repairing the typhoon affected schools with GGP.

NES is the eighth school to receive GGP funding for a school bus. The handed over bus is hoped to contribute to the further development of Ngarchelong Elementary School and its students.
