◆Successful Ikebana workshop on September 6-7
The Ikebana workshop and contest was held at the Belau National Museum from September 6-7, hosted by the Belau Tourism Association (BTA) and the Embassy of Japan.
On Saturday, September 6, flower enthusiasts of all generations gathered to experience Japanese traditional flower arrangement with Ms. Koen Yokoi, one of the most celebrated Ikebana artists in Japan. For the morning session, after the Sensei demonstrated the basic form of Ikebana, each participant created his or her own piece by using the local flowers and plants. For the afternoon session, the participants made their own Japanese garden with sand, rocks, leaves and flowers.
On the following day, many enthusiasts showcased their masterpieces for the contest which consisted of Ikebana category and General Flower Arrangement category. This time, Mr. Sngebard Delong topped the Ikebana category, surprising the crowd with his simple but beautiful flower arrangement featuring coconut and mushroom. The other award winners are: Ms. Kyoko Emesiochel (Ikebana 2nd), Ms. Chiyoko Delong (Ikebana 3rd), Ms. Peggy Hanser (General 1st), Ms. Helen Sam (General 2nd), Ms. Julie Jiro (General 3rd), M. Janine Tewid (Junior Ikebana), and Ms. Kirari Delong (Junior General).
Ms. Yokoi started the reception with a spectacular live performance of Ikebana. She mesmerized the audience with her talent, expressing the theme of the Workshop “Green of the Forest” with the driftwoods, branches, leaves and plants gathered from the forests of Aimeliik and OISCA farm.
