◆Japan Donates Bus to Belau Modekngei School

(Ambassador handed over the key of the bus to BMS principal and student representative)

On Tuesday, October 9, 2012, Japan Ambassador Yoshiyuki Sadaoka formally handed over a band new 30-seat microbus for Belau Modekngei School (BMS) to its Principal, Ms. Bedbii Chiokai. The handing over ceremony was held at the BMS campus and was attended by Delegate of Ngatpang State, Hon. Jerry Nabeyama, the Director of the Bureau of Education Administration, Mr. Emery Wenty, Administrative Officer, Mr. Phillip Haruo, the Chairman of the Board of Directors, Mr. Kalistus Wasisang.

The bus donated was purchased through a Japan’s Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Project (GGP) grant and had a total cost of $87,900. Two small microbuses BMS owns have become quite old and are prone to breakdowns. BMS’s location in Ibobang, Ngatpang, further necessitates the need for a reliable and safe transportation for participation in extracurricular activities outside of Ibobang.

This marks the second time BMS has been awarded a GGP grant. In 2005, a GGP grant provided equipments and improved learning facilities as support towards the comprehensive vocational/technical education at BMS. It is hoped that this new bus will also contribute to the improvement of the learning environment of BMS.
