◆16 Japanese students visit Palau through Children Exchange Program with Micronesian Islands

16 Japanese students are currently visiting Palau through Children Exchange Program with Micronesian Islands. On Wednesday July 25th, led by Director Kenji Ono, the students aged between 10 and 14 years-old, visited the Embassy of Japan. During the session, they learned about Japan-Palau bilateral relations and Embassy’s role from Embassy staff. Following this, Takanori Sato, JICA volunteer at Palau International Coral Reef Center (PICRC) talked about the activities of JICA volunteers and the corals in Palau. The students took interest in corals and at the end asked some questions such as ‘Why many fishes can live inside coral?’
The group will stay Palau between 24 and 31 July and will visit Melekeok, Gemelis Island, Palau National Museum, etc. They will also experience homestay for one night.
The program, initiated by the National Institution for Youth Education of Japan, involves students of Japan, Palau, Marshall Islands and FSM. Since 2003, students of Japan have visited Micronesian countries and students of Micronesian countries have visited Japan every year. The students of Airai Elementary school had visited Japan last month through the program.
