◆Children’s Judo uniforms donated from Japan

On June 12th, Ambassador Sadaoka handed over 30 judo uniforms for children to the Palau Judo Federation (PJF). The ceremony was held at the National Gym before the children’s judo class started. Ambassador Sadaoka, Minister of Justice Johnny Gibbons, members and students of the PJF, and Palau’s London Olympic representative Jennifer Anson was present at the ceremony.
This donation was made possible by Kodokan Judo Institute, the head institute of Judo in Tokyo established in 1882. In early 2012, PJF asked Ambassador Sadaoka if he could support them in obtaining children’s judo uniform since there were not enough uniforms for the newly opened children’s judo classes. Ambassador Sadaoka wrote a letter to Mr. Haruki Uemura, President of the Kodokan Judo Institute and a gold medalist from the 1976 Summer Olympics in Montreal, if they could kindly support the PJF by providing judo uniforms for children. Soon after, Ambassador received a reply from Mr. Uemura saying that Kodokan is happy to provide the uniforms for the children in Palau. In his letter to Ambassador Sadaoka, Mr. Uemura mentioned that it is his pleasure to contribute to the continuing effort of the PJF to spread judo to the local people of Palau.
PJF recently had other good news with Ms. Jennifer Anson qualifying for the London Olympics and then receiving a 6th Dan Judo instructor, Mr. Yoshinori Fujiwara from Japan.
The children’s Judo classes are held every Tuesday and Thursday from 5:30 p.m.
