◆Japan hands over the School Bus to Ngeremlengui Elementary School
On Tuesday, August 6, 2013, Ambassador of Japan Yoshiyuki Sadaoka formally handed over the brand new Nissan 30 seat school bus to Ngeremlengui Elementary School (NES). The Handing Over Ceremony was held in Ngeremlengui State. The ceremony to hand over the school bus to the NES was attended by Governor of Ngeremlengui Wilson Ongos, Senator Arnold Oilouch, Senator Phillip Reklai, Delegate Swenny Ongidobel, Speaker of Ngeremlengui Legislature Thomas Taro, Director of Bureau of Education Emery Wenty, Chief of School Management Sinton Soalablai, MOE Administrative Officer Philip Haruo and NES Principal Patricia Franz. NES students and their parents were also present.
Through Japan’s Grant Assistance for Grassroots Projects (GGP), NES school bus was procured in the total cost of $100,589. NES owns a bus, which has become old and was facing frequent breakdowns. Therefore, the brand new bus procured is expected to ensure safe and reliable transportation of NES students and will allow their participation in extracurricular activities outside the state without transportation challenges. New school year beginning on 5th August, students will be able to begin their new school life along with the new school bus.
NES is the seventh school to receive GGP funding for its school bus, after Peleliu Elementary School on 5th August 2013, Emmaus High School in 2012, in recent years.


◆Japan’s GGP Grant for Ngeremlengui Elementary School Bus

On Thursday, February 14, 2013, Japan Ambassador Yoshiyuki Sadaoka and Ngeremlengui Elementary School (NES) Principal Patricia Franz, signed documents formally officializing a grant to procure a brand new 30 seat microbus for the school. The signing ceremony was held at the Embassy of Japan in Ngerekebesang and was witnessed by the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Health and Education, Senator Raynold B. Oilouch, Ngeremlengui State Delegate Swenny Ongidobel, the Director of the Bureau of Education Administration, Mr. Emery Wenty, the Chief of School Management, Mr. Sinton Soalablai, the acting Chief of Personnel, Mr. Philip Haruo, and NES Parents Teachers Association Chariman, Mr. Kebekol Rebluud.
The grant officialized is valued at $100,589 and is offered through Japan’s Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Project (GGP). NES currently owns a bus, but it has become quite old and unreliable due to constant breakdowns. The bus to be procured will now ensure safe and reliable transportation of NES students and will allow their participation in extracurricular activities outside the State without transportation challenges.
The NES bus will be the sixth bus donated by Japan through GGP after bus donations to Peliliu in 1999, Aimeliik in 2010, Melekeok Elementary School and Belau Modekngei School in 2012, and Emmaus High School last January. Education is one of the primary fields prioritized by Japan and its grant programs like GGP.
