◆Reunion for Palauans who Studied in Japan

On the evening of Thursday, February 23, 2012, the Embassy of Japan hosted a reunion for Palauans who studied in Japan. Annually, the government of Japan offers Palauans full scholarships to study in Japan under Research, Undergraduate, Specialized Training, or Teacher Training Programs. The Embassy invites the alumni of the scholarships to the reunion every year. And this year, the Embassy extended an invitation to the Palauans who studied in Japan privately as well.

The reunion was held at the Palau Royal Resort and was filled with memories of life in Japan. It also featured speeches by Ambassador of Japan Yoshiyuki Sadaoka, Senate President Mlib Tmetuchl, and PAJGS (Palau Association of Japanese Government Scholars) Vice President Kaipo Ibab Recheungel. Senate President Tmetuchl was the guest of honor as he himself also attended college in Japan in the mid-seventies. Following this, the recipient of this year’s Japanese Government Scholarship Mr. Silil Byron Meltel expressed his hopes during the stint in Japan.

The reunion was attended by 26 individuals, who are recognized and active members of the Palauan community, and is testimony to the success of the Japan Government Scholarship Program and the quality of education in Japan. At the reunion, attendees took the opportunity to thank Japan for the hospitality and education afforded them during their stay in Japan.
