◆Japanese NGO for UXO Removal Visits Palau for Preliminary Research
Two members of Japan Mine Action Service (JMAS), Mr. Takayasu Kakehi, Advisor, and Mr. Akira Nara, Vice President, visited Palau from February 20th to 25th in order to implement a preliminary research on the possibility of supporting Palau through the removal of Unexploded Ordnances (UXOs) in the country.
During their visit, Mr. Kakehi and Mr. Nara visited the Ministry of State and met with Minister Yano and Director Akiwo of the Bureau of the Domestic Affairs. On the 23rd, they had a meeting with Ministry of State along with the Cleared Ground Demining (CGD), a British NGO who has been active in Palau since 2009 in the field of removing UXOs and public awareness raising.
JMAS is a non-governmental organization registered in Japan which specializes in UXO removal. They have removed UXOs and landmines in Cambodia, Afghanistan, Pakistan and Angola, and are interested in supporting the Republic of Palau in this field as Palau is heavily contaminated with the remnants from World War II.
