◆Japan donates microbuses and air conditioner to Palau’s Senior Citizens

On Tuesday,February 21, 2012, Japan’s Ambassador Yoshiyuki Sadaoka formally handed over two (2) microbuses and one (1) air conditioner to Palau’s Senior Citizens. A handover ceremony was held at the Senior Citizen’s Center in Medalaii and was attended by President Johnson Toribiong, Minister of Community and Cultural Affairs Faustina Rehuher-Marugg, National Advisory Council for Senior Citizens Chairman Jack UremaklDebelbot, and senior citizens of Palau.

The donations were funded by a $79,959 Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Project (GGP). The two (2) microbuses havea capacity of fifteen passengers each, and will now ensure safe and reliable transportation for Palau’s senior citizens, and improve their necessary access to services. The air conditioner on the other hand will provide a cool environment for Palau’s elderly and limit their exposure to high temperatures, especially during various indoor activities. The senior citizens are excited to use these buses to join the Japanese Film Festival held on February 22 at the Koror State Assembly Hall.
